Primary Services is actively recruiting for a Construction Accounting Specialist to support a large client in the commercial construction industry. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with a strong background in construction finance, job costing, and project accounting. The Construction Accounting Specialist will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting project teams, and ensuring the financial success of complex construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform full-cycle construction accounting, including job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Track project costs, analyze budgets, and prepare variance reports.
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting activities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare journal entries.
- Monitor project billing, retainage, lien waivers, and subcontractor payments.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Coordinate with project managers to review budgets, change orders, and project forecasts.
- Maintain accurate financial records and organized project documentation.
- Support cash flow management and financial planning activities.
- Develop and maintain job cost reports and financial spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
- Utilize Sage to maintain accounting records and support financial reporting.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience within the construction industry required.
- Experience with construction job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting required.
- Proficiency with Sage accounting software is required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, and financial reporting.
- Experience processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and general ledger activities.
- Experience preparing financial statements, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Knowledge of project billing, retainage, lien waivers, and subcontractor payment processes.
- Strong 10-key typing and data entry skills.
