The Fiber Splicer will support the reliability and expansion of a high-performance fiber network by splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and restoring fiber infrastructure throughout the Greater Houston area. Working across indoor and outdoor environments, this role combines hands-on technical expertise with outage response, field documentation, and coordination with customers and internal teams to keep critical network infrastructure operating at the highest standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform fiber optic splicing, terminations, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Fusion splice loose-tube and ribbon fiber optic cable, including mid-sheath splicing.
- Perform OTDR testing and retrieve, review, and process OTDR traces.
- Read and interpret network maps, fiber routes, and detailed splicing documentation.
- Research and verify fiber routes across various field environments.
- Respond to network outages and track restoration progress, materials, labor, and manpower.
- Operate fusion splicers, power meters, OTDRs, light meters, aerial lifts, ladders, and related field equipment.
- Complete work orders, bills of materials, splice case audits, labor records, and other field documentation.
- Coordinate site access and work activities with customers, contractors, and internal teams.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in accordance with safety and operational requirements.
- Ensure completed work meets established quality and safety standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of comparable fiber optic experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience fusion splicing both loose-tube and ribbon fiber optic cable.
- Experience performing mid-sheath fiber splicing.
- Proficiency with fiber splicing, OTDR testing, terminations, troubleshooting, and restoration.
- Ability to interpret network maps, fiber routes, and fiber splicing details.
- Valid Texas Driver's License and ability to meet company vehicle insurance requirements.
- Ability to accommodate a 24/7 operational schedule, including overtime, after-hours, weekends, and emergency outage response as required.
- Ability to travel locally throughout the Greater Houston area.
- Ability to safely operate aerial lifts, ladders, fiber testing equipment, and related field tools.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and provide required personal hand tools.
