The Senior Employee Relations Investigator will serve as a neutral, independent advisor conducting a confidential assessment of a 12-person team experiencing recurring employee complaints and interpersonal conflict. Going beyond a traditional employee relations investigation, this role will independently lead interviews, fact-finding, and organizational diagnosis to identify the underlying causes of team dysfunction, including potential impacts from a recent promotion decision. Findings will be translated into leadership-ready recommendations addressing potential coaching, team development, leadership intervention, process changes, or other appropriate actions.
Responsibilities
- Lead an independent and confidential assessment of workplace complaints, interpersonal conflict, and team dynamics.
- Conduct neutral interviews and structured fact-finding with employees, leaders, and relevant stakeholders.
- Evaluate recurring complaints to distinguish substantiated issues from broader organizational or interpersonal challenges.
- Assess potential root causes of team dysfunction, including leadership dynamics, team culture, and recent organizational decisions.
- Analyze findings to determine whether coaching, leadership intervention, team development, process improvements, or other actions are appropriate.
- Develop clear, objective, and defensible findings based on interviews and supporting information.
- Prepare concise, leadership-ready reports outlining findings, risks, and recommended actions.
- Advise leadership on practical next steps for improving team effectiveness and addressing identified concerns.
- Exercise independent judgment throughout the investigation while maintaining neutrality and confidentiality.
- Coordinate with legal counsel or other stakeholders when appropriate.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- 5+ years of direct experience leading formal workplace investigations.
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing team dysfunction and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
- Experience independently conducting sensitive employee interviews and workplace fact-finding.
- Experience preparing investigation findings and recommendations for senior or executive leadership.
- Experience handling confidential employee relations matters with a high level of discretion.
- Ability to work onsite five days per week in Scottsdale, Arizona for the three-month assignment.
- Experience with team effectiveness, organizational culture assessments, or organizational development preferred.
- Change management certification such as Prosci or ADKAR preferred.
- Employment law experience or experience partnering with legal counsel preferred.
- Executive coaching or facilitation experience preferred.
- Energy, utilities, or industrial operations experience is a plus.
- SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar HR certification is preferred.
