The HR Generalist will serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees with a primary focus on employee relations, workplace investigations, performance management, and employment compliance. This role will independently manage sensitive employee concerns and investigations while partnering closely with HR leadership, Legal, Labor Relations, Compliance, and other HR functions. The HR Generalist will help ensure workplace matters are addressed fairly, consistently, and in accordance with company policies and employment regulations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary HR resource for employee relations matters, workplace concerns, complaints, policy interpretation, and employee conduct issues.
- Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial workplace investigations involving misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, ethics concerns, and policy violations.
- Gather and evaluate information through employee interviews, document reviews, and evidence analysis.
- Prepare detailed investigation reports, findings, recommendations, and executive summaries.
- Advise leaders on performance concerns, attendance issues, corrective actions, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary processes.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation involving workplace disputes and employee concerns.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Security, Labor Relations, and HR stakeholders on complex or sensitive cases.
- Identify employee relations and compliance risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Coach leaders on documentation, performance management, workplace communication, and employee relations practices.
- Maintain confidential case files and track employee relations metrics, trends, investigation activity, and outcomes.
- Support organizational changes, workforce transitions, accommodations, leave processes, and regulatory inquiries as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of Human Resources experience with significant employee relations, workplace investigations, or compliance responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience conducting workplace investigations and documenting findings.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Experience advising management on corrective action, performance management, and employee relations matters.
- Experience preparing investigation reports, case documentation, findings, and recommendations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms.
- Experience supporting complex or multi-location workforces preferred.
- Experience partnering with Legal and/or Labor Relations preferred.
- Utility, energy, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industry experience preferred.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or workplace investigation certification/training preferred.
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule in Houston, TX.
