Get out from behind the traditional help desk and take on a hands-on IT support role where you’ll troubleshoot technology directly in the field. Support a major utility serving more than 7 million customers across multiple states, gaining enterprise-level experience within a critical infrastructure environment. This 6-month contract, with potential for extension, offers variety and autonomy as you work across Minneapolis-area locations, resolving hardware, software, Microsoft 365, networking, connectivity, and endpoint issues firsthand.
The Desktop Support Technician will provide deskside, remote, and field-based technical support for employees across multiple locations in the Minneapolis metro area, generally within approximately 30 minutes of Brooklyn Park. This role is ideal for an experienced support technician who enjoys break/fix troubleshooting, working directly with users, and independently resolving technical issues that could otherwise disrupt daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide in-person, remote, phone, and email technical support for end-user technology issues.
- Diagnose and resolve laptop, desktop, software, hardware, peripheral, and connectivity problems.
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and upgrade Windows operating systems and PC software.
- Support Microsoft 365 applications and related end-user issues.
- Troubleshoot LAN/WAN, VPN, TCP/IP, routing, switches, and other network connectivity issues.
- Configure, repair, and replace PCs, printers, scanners, video conferencing equipment, and other peripherals.
- Perform break/fix support and remote diagnostics to minimize user downtime.
- Support endpoint imaging, application deployment, patching, and device management using SCCM when applicable.
- Document incidents, troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and follow-up activities within the ticketing system.
- Track equipment, replacement hardware, and spare inventory.
- Travel between supported Minneapolis-area locations to provide onsite technical assistance.
- Escalate unresolved or complex issues to appropriate technical resources.
Qualifications
- Hands-on desktop, deskside, field, or endpoint support experience.
- Experience troubleshooting Windows 10, Microsoft 365, PCs, hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Working knowledge of LAN/WAN, VPN, TCP/IP, network routing, and switches.
- Experience with IT helpdesk, incident management, or issue-tracking systems.
- ServiceNow experience highly preferred.
- Break/fix experience with laptops, desktops, and endpoint equipment strongly preferred.
- Microsoft SCCM experience with imaging, software deployment, application installation, patching, or device management preferred.
- Service Suite experience preferred.
- Utility industry experience preferred.
- Ability to travel daily between local support locations as required; mileage is reimbursed for required travel.
