Primary Services is actively recruiting for a Data Tech Lead to support a prestigious client in the energy industry. This leadership role is with a large enterprise looking for an experienced data professional to lead the architecture, engineering, governance, and delivery of modern data platforms. The Data Tech Lead will provide technical direction across the full data lifecycle while partnering with senior leadership, architects, project managers, business analysts, and data scientists to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions that support critical business operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise data platforms across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Define data product roadmaps and align engineering initiatives with long-term business and technology strategies.
- Design and optimize data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Databricks, Delta Live Tables, and Structured Streaming.
- Develop data models and solution architectures using SAP PowerDesigner and BiZ Design.
- Implement governance, metadata management, data lineage, and security controls using Unity Catalog.
- Optimize platform performance, scalability, reliability, and cloud cost efficiency.
- Drive CI/CD practices, deployment automation, and touchless change management.
- Lead data quality initiatives, root cause analysis, and SLA compliance for enterprise data solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Present technical strategies and recommendations to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
- Support integrations with enterprise applications, APIs, and modern cloud services.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship while establishing engineering standards and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 12–17 years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or enterprise analytics platforms.
- Advanced experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Databricks, Delta Live Tables, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, SQL, REST APIs, Python, and Spark or Scala.
- Strong expertise in data architecture, data modeling, metadata management, and enterprise data governance.
- Experience implementing Unity Catalog for governance and lineage.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server, including performance tuning, indexing, normalization, and transaction management.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes fundamentals, API gateways, reverse proxies, and load balancing.
- Working knowledge of AI/ML, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and automation within data engineering environments.
- Experience leading technical teams and enterprise-scale data initiatives.
- Preferred experience with Kafka, Hadoop, Spark Streaming, Airflow, Azkaban, Luigi, Power BI, or Qlik Sense.
- Azure, Databricks, AI/ML, or Data Engineering certifications are preferred.
- Experience supporting freight, voyage management, chartering, vessel scheduling, demurrage, laytime, or related trading and supply business processes is preferred.
- Experience integrating with enterprise trading or freight management platforms is preferred.
