San Francisco Judge Supports Glassdoor's Refusal to Reveal Commenters
Last Friday, San Francisco US Magistrate, Judge Joseph Spero, decided that Glassdoor.com does not have to disclose the identities of those who leave reviews.
According to the judge, such a disclosure would infringe on constitutionally protected speech.
The lawyers arguing the case claimed that identifying the authors would support the defense claims of defamation. Even if the accused was indeed the poster, Spero found that First Amendment concerns still outweighed the reasons for the request.
According to Glassdoor’s lawyers, complying with such a request under these circumstances “would “give Glassdoor’s users every reason to fear that their anonymity will be compromised.”
