The Vice President of Human Resources will serve as a strategic and operational HR leader supporting a complex, labor-intensive workforce across multiple locations and states. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role will continue to handle employee and labor relations, workplace investigations, workforce analytics, talent strategy, and M&A integrations, and will work closely with executive and operational leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead employee and labor relations strategy across unionized, frontline, and multi-site operations.
- Personally conduct complex workplace investigations involving complaints, misconduct, harassment, retaliation, policy violations, and other sensitive matters.
- Advise operational leaders on disciplinary actions, performance management, corrective action, conflict resolution, and workforce concerns.
- Build productive relationships with union representatives and support grievances, labor negotiations, dispute resolution, and collective bargaining agreement interpretation.
- Develop preventive labor relations strategies using workforce analytics, culture assessments, engagement efforts, and early issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment and labor laws.
- Provide strategic direction for talent acquisition supporting hourly, salaried, leadership, and business-critical hiring.
- Lead workforce planning, succession planning, talent pipelines, and leadership development initiatives.
- Lead HR due diligence and workforce integration activities for mergers and acquisitions.
- Develop integration and change-management plans supporting employees, culture, and operational objectives.
- Analyze workforce trends and employee relations data to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
- Partner with executive and operational leaders on organizational restructuring, workforce transitions, and strategic HR initiatives.
- Maintain regular onsite engagement with field operations and travel to operating locations as required.
Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required.
- 15–20+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, with significant Employee Relations experience.
- Extensive union and labor relations experience required.
- Demonstrated experience personally conducting complex workplace investigations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience leading HR activities through mergers, acquisitions, and post-acquisition integrations.
- Experience supporting large frontline labor populations in waste and recycling, manufacturing, oil and gas, or comparable industrial environments.
- Experience supporting multi-site, multi-state operations.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, labor law, collective bargaining, and HR compliance.
- Experience with workforce analytics and preventive employee/labor relations strategies.
- Ability to travel regularly and maintain an on-site presence with field operations.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
