The Margins Analyst is responsible for the reconciliation of the Independent System Operators (ISO) power settlement costs and customer invoiced charges and revenues as well as margin reporting in one of five retail energy markets (ERCOT, PJM, NEISO, NYISO, and MISO). The Margin Analyst also prepares monthly revenue & cost variance analyses (Estimates & Actuals) for assigned markets.
This role reports to the Settlements Director and is in Houston, TX.
What you’ll do:
- ISO settlements and invoicing control in one of ERNA’s five retail markets (ERCOT, PJM, NEISO, NYISO, MISO)
- Reconcile ISO settlement costs to customer invoiced revenues in retail market and report margin for the assigned market
- Validation of charges for the ISO invoice in assigned market and reconciliation of charges and/or data to our internal systems
- Maintain market knowledge and stay apprised of regulatory issues pertaining to assigned market
- Provide analysis and supporting documents for all prior period adjustments and other reconciliations as required. Follow through on variances and recommend future action to responsible department
- Coordinate escalated customer invoicing issues in assigned market with 3rd Party billing vendor and sales representatives
- Knowledge of the Retail Product Catalog and the interpretation of complex retail contracts
- Work with Supply, Operations, IT, and vendors to ensure accurate data moves into and out of the settlements and shadow invoicing systems
- Support all the other market’s settlement tasks
- Assist Sales, Billing and other internal groups on inquiries as needed
- Software/systems to be used: Excel, Word, Access, Toad (SQL), Oracle LPSS, Siebel
- Prepare monthly revenue & cost variance analyses (Estimates & Actuals) for assigned market and must be available for monthly close activities at the beginning of each month
Qualifications
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or finance
- Minimum 2 years of retail or wholesale power experience
- ISO Power Settlement experience a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Strong quantitative, data, modeling skills as related to energy pricing structures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service attitude
