Gain deeper exposure to pipeline settlements, complex pricing, quality banks, inventory reconciliation, SAP, trading systems, and counterparty resolution, with direct visibility into the operational decisions that protect margin and prevent profit leakage.
The Crude Operations Analyst will track crude oil transactions from purchase through final destination, ensuring physical movements are accurately recorded, reconciled, and settled. This role requires a strong understanding of both the operational and commercial implications behind the data—effectively owning the molecule while resolving volume discrepancies, managing losses, and maintaining integrity across complex crude trading activity.
Responsibilities
- Record and track physical crude oil movements from purchase through final destination.
- Reconcile and settle crude purchases, sales, inventory, and transportation activity.
- Analyze operational and commercial data to identify losses and prevent profit leakage.
- Interpret contractual terms, complex pricing structures, quality banks, and pipeline requirements.
- Analyze allocated volumes and revisions to maintain accurate transaction and inventory data.
- Verify complex accounting deals, quarterly quality bank statements, and pipeline statements.
- Research and resolve unsettled transactions in LPS, Endur, TSAP, and related systems.
- Reconcile inventory balances to third-party pipeline and transportation statements.
- Investigate volumetric discrepancies, identify root causes, and drive resolution.
- Support approximately 25 million barrels of crude purchases and sales each month.
- Account for crude movements across 3,000+ locations involving pipelines, rail, trucks, and barges.
- Support settlement activities involving approximately 500 counterparties.
- Assist financial close by reviewing significant differences between forecasted and actual volumes.
- Resolve disputed receivables and analyze related payable activity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5+ years of crude oil operations experience required.
- 5+ years of energy or commodity trading experience required.
- Strong knowledge of crude transportation, pipeline systems, settlements, inventory, and physical commodity movements.
- Experience interpreting crude contracts, pricing structures, pipeline statements, and allocated volumes.
- Experience reconciling high-volume crude transactions and resolving volumetric discrepancies.
- SAP experience required.
- Experience with LPS, Endur, TSAP, or comparable energy trading systems preferred.
- Canadian crude market experience preferred.
- Ability to work beyond standard business hours during monthly close and periods of increased trading activity.
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule in Houston, TX.
