Jobless Claims Reach Highest in Months; Still Below Threshold
The number of jobless claims rose to 276,000 for the month of March. While this is the highest it has been in months, it is still lower than the 300,000 threshold.
The low amount of claims can be a result of a surge in hiring. Monthly job gains have been averaging upwards of 200,000 jobs a month. But new claims, a more accurate metric for labor-market trends, according to the Labor Department, rose by 3,500 in the past Month. Continuing claims, however, dropped 7,000 in the last week.
