Primary Services is looking for an experienced Chemicals Project Electrical Inspector to support a prestigious client in the energy industry. This role serves as the site-based electrical inspection focal point for assigned project scopes, providing independent field quality assurance to ensure electrical construction and installation activities are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable electrical codes. The Inspector will collaborate with Construction, QA/QC, Commissioning, and Operations teams to support reliable asset delivery and successful project handover.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and hold-point inspections in accordance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for cables, terminations, grounding and bonding, cable trays, lighting, motors, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and packaged equipment.
- Verify electrical materials, installation methods, and workmanship align with approved drawings, specifications, datasheets, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and layouts.
- Witness and review electrical testing activities, including insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, earth resistance testing, torque checks, functional checks, and site acceptance testing (SAT).
- Confirm hazardous area requirements are met, including Ex equipment installation, cable glands, sealing, labeling, segregation, and required documentation.
- Conduct field walkdowns, identify defects, document quality observations, issue non-conformance reports (NCRs), and track corrective actions through closure.
- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including energization readiness, system completion reviews, and turnover dossier preparation.
- Participate in toolbox talks, permit-to-work (PTW) and lockout/tagout (LOTO) compliance checks, and safe execution planning for simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
- Prepare daily inspection reports, progress updates, and inputs for project planning and constraint removal activities.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, test documentation, redlines/as-built drawings, and turnover packages for project handover.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, construction supervisors, commissioning teams, and operations personnel to ensure compliance and minimize rework.
Qualifications:
- Technical diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent electrical trade or technical qualification.
- 5+ years of experience inspecting electrical construction activities on industrial, energy, chemical, or large infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of electrical construction practices, installation requirements, testing methods, and interpretation of electrical drawings and specifications.
- Experience with QA/QC processes, including ITPs, hold points, manufacturer data records (MDRs), NCRs, punch management, and commissioning readiness.
- Working knowledge of electrical safety requirements, PTW/LOTO procedures, and hazardous area classifications.
- Familiarity with electrical standards and codes, including IEC, IEEE, NEC, and applicable local regulations.
- Knowledge of IECEx/ATEX concepts; CompEx or Ex training is an advantage.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and digital inspection reporting systems.
- Experience documenting electrical inspections, test results, and project quality records.
