Companies Commit to Hire 1 Million Veterans
Yesterday, 200 hundred companies celebrated Veterans’ Day by pledging to hire one million veterans.
This group of companies, which includes J.P. Morgan Chase, Pepsi, and Southwest Airlines, was created four years ago by J.P. Morgan Chase. Originally the goal was to help 100,000 service people. The program is now called Veteran Jobs Mission has successfully found work for 300,000 veterans.
The program was created to address the high unemployment rate among veterans, a large percentage of them having returned from service in a historically terrible job market.
In addition to finding work for veterans, the program also aims to maintain and improve retention among veterans placed in jobs.
