College Hiring Outlook Best in a Decade

According to a survey by CareerBuilder, 67% of employers are looking to hire recent graduates this year with 37% at a higher salary than the previous year, and some with a starting salary over $50,000.

However, there are employer who are concerned that academic experience may not fully prepare recent graduates for the working world. Specific concerns included lack of internship experience, real-world experience, and blended technical and liberal arts skills among more. Skills that employers feel recent graduates lack include: leadership, teamwork, communication, creative thinking, and project management.

For those who are hiring recent graduates, the top majors in demand are:

  • Business
  • Computer and Information Sciences
  • Engineering
  • Math and Statistics

Most are planning to make an offer to graduates before they graduate, but you can read The New Graduates’ Guide to Job Searching and more about opportunities for recent grads here.
